Default Generic Nerfing and Buffing

For dev.
You don't need to play game or even have direct feedback from users.

1. Make statistics. (actually it is a kind of indirect user feedback).
2. Sort skill by categories/utilities/profession, etc.
3. Change or Nerf top 10 most used skills from each skill set.
4. Change or Buff top 10 least used skills from each skill set.
5. Randomly Change, Buff or Nerf 10 average skills to insure dynamism in this skill balancing system.

For long term add a routine that regularly (monthly) slightly adjut these top skill in recharge/casting time/costs. Without human interraction.

Depending on how skill sets are made for SD, statistics on those skills could even be used for it.

Can't wait until month one when Frenzy, Rush, Bull's Strike, Savage Shot, etc. etc. get nerfed.

Skills that are used a lot are not necessarily overpowered. Because of this, your system that relies on not thinking and randomly changing stuff won't work.

that's where skill sorting is usefull, excluding skills like charm animal
having a tool for skill balancing is in noway leading to deadend.

SD skill sets are usefull for example since some sorting by utilities are necessarly done for those.

Balance is about player satisfaction.

What in your mathematics accounts for player satisfaction?

Completely agree

Further I find most skill changes to be kind of useless for balancing as there is almost always an upside and a downside. I enjoy skill changes though since they renew gameplay a little.

I dont think they will ever employ this system for nerfing/buffing skills. Much too late for gw one. Also i believe some skills are meant to be more widely useful than others, and are therefore more popular. Others are more specific refined (situational) skills, and would therefore be used less. Your system would ignore the finer points of skill use, focusing on a single statistic.

The best answer is not always to generalize to a simple system.

Not to mention one way of gauging what should be nerfed/buffed isnt much better than others considering it is somewhat subjective what is the best way. As said above player satisfaction is usually the goal.

OK...feedback from users is extremely important to keep a game from falling apart from imbalanced classes. Go look at Warhammer online; I doubt they'll last longer than another year because they ignored their playerbase and buffed w/e skills they wand

If you look at the updates, 4 and 5 have been used this year. The problem is that they never follow up with nerfing the overpowered skills until four months later.

I'd rather simply they buff and nerf skills mostly at random. And do it constantly, so even if something is overpowered, it won't be for long.

Keep things changing and interesting.

I'm confused, how is this a good idea? I agree with Marty; not everyone uses skills that are overpowered so much as they make a great build or they enjoy it. /notsigned

I don't Core and Prophecies skills have to be changed in any way. These skills are generally balanced or underpowered. Because seriously what are the unbalanced skills? The ones from Nightfall mainly and now some from Factions due to the updates.
I would like the people that work on this stuff to look over the Nightfall skills.

based on Seeing all the Noob R/A's that still try to use Escape in RA, u would probally see a lot of people still using the skill if that happened

I'd like to see random skill updates in the form of nerfs/buffs. As other people have already stated it would add a twist to the game.

...And what happens when one of the automated nerfs doesn't work, because it misses the entire point of what's wrong with a given skill? Wait another month? And then another, and another until it finally gets it right?

What happens when a skill that is actually balanced gets nerfed simply because more people like using it?

How about when you bring the secondary classes into play? Will we get 15 ele skills nerfed each month instead of 10 because of FC nukers?

What about when these nerfs end up making certain skills completely redundant (such as Power Shot vs Sundering Attack)?

What about skills that are too fundamental to team strategies to be removed as options? (Protective Spirit getting nerfed in PvE)

What about skills that have complex or even conditional effects? How would you determine what parts of the skills get nerfed? How would it nerf, say, WoH? Or Reaper's Sweep?

There are just too many problems with this, and it would likely create more imbalance every month than it fixes.
